College Library: An Introduction

The library is like a Kalpa-Vriksha under whose influence the means of knowledge attains the desired results. From the most ancient material to the most modern researches/inventions, we can easily obtain written, recorded and published documents through the library. In an educational institution, the library fulfills the need of books for students, teachers and employees. Certainly, it is only with the help of the library that students are able to fulfill the real goal of education. From this point of view, our college library can be said to be fully capable. The library is fully equipped with library automation, air conditioning and Wi-Fi facilities. All the work in the library is done through smart I-Cards under library automation. All online services provided by Delhi University Library System and INFLIBNET are available in the college library. At present, the college library has 58,296 books related to various subjects. In which there are 51412 books in the regular department, 1,333 in books fund, 4538 in student aid fund, 911 in gift section and 66 in project work fund, 18 in Planning forum, 18 in SE. Books are also weeded out from the library from time to time. Till now 17031 books have been weeded out. 61 daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly journals, magazines and newspapers in Sanskrit, Hindi and English language are regularly available in the reading room.

Student Assistance Fund: -

This fund was established in 1958 whose main objective is to provide books to poor students for the whole year. At present there are 4538 books in this fund.

Library Services: -

Library services are available in the college from 1:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Two months before the commencement of the examination of each semester, the library timings are changed from 9:00 am to 8:30 pm. So, students can get maximum time to prepare for their examinations. During this period, students who are unable to come have breakfast/lunch due to some reason, such students are provided free breakfast/lunch by the college, this initiative taken by our Respected Principal Sir Prof. R. K. Gupta Ji for the last 7 years. The main objective of providing this facility to the students is to provide them maximum time for study.

Smart I-Card (Student Smart Identity Card): -

The college library also issues Smart I-Cards to students. The Smart I-Card is special in itself. Students use it for cashless transactions in the college premises such as canteen, Photostat shop, Juice corner, Accounts department and Library. The facility of recharging the smart card is available in the library and students can also recharge their smart I-card online through UPI.

Resources available in the library: -

The library is fully air-conditioned. There are 16 CCTV cameras installed in the library. A 65-inch TV is installed in the library to make the students aware of the college activities. Also, there are 4 speakers with a mike in the library to communicate with the students. Talking Gita (Shrimad Bhagawat Gita) is also available in the library in Hindi, English and Sanskrit.

Library Automation: -

With the aim of making the library more useful from the automation point of view, the cloud-based library software KOHA is in use in the library. Koha is an open source integrated library management software. The library has provided the facility to college students and faculty members to search their desired book on their mobile. There is a separate OPAC system in the library so that students can search their books easily.

Remote Access :-

With the aim of providing maximum facility of e-services to college professors, employees and students, the facility of Remote Access provided by Delhi University Library System has been made available free of cost in the library.

N-List: -

With the aim of providing the benefit of e-services (e-books, e-journals) to college professors, employees and students, the library has provided a free facility of N-List (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content).

Towards Digital Library: -

The present era is the era of information dissemination; the college library is also moving towards digitalization. Information has been collected through various e-links and subjects under the digital library on the library's website.

Facility provided to Divyang students:-

In order to assist Divyang students in their studies, the library provides them with a free Daisy Player (Evo E11). In the session 2023-24, this facility was provided to five Divyang students.

Plagiarism Software (Turnitin) facility in the library: -

As a special facility for faculty members, the facility of TurnitinSoftware obtained from Delhi University Library System is also available in the library to check the quality and plagiarism of their research work. Earlier, the facility of Urkund and DrillBit Software were available in the library.

Sound Proof Room: -

Keeping in mind the online classes, there is also a sound proof room in the college library. In which the facility of webinar and recording is available to the college faculty members and students.

Research Corner: -

There is a research corner on the first floor of the library with the objective of providing a special environment to the faculty members and students for their research work and projects. In which students and faculty members sit and prepare their projects and research work with full concentration.

Separate air-conditioned study room facility for the faculty members in the library: -

Study work is a continuous process. To ensure that this process continues uninterrupted, there is a provision of an air-conditioned reading room in the library for the faculty members. Which has been used by the faculty members.

Old Question Paper Bank: -

With the objective of helping the students in their studies, the library has a good collection of old question papers. Along with making the old question papers of the past years available to the students in the form of booklets, they have also been made available on the library's website.

Gyan-Pravah: -

The library also runs a scheme called Gyan-Pravah. Under this, books received as gifts from the college faculty members are made available to the students free of cost.

Archives: -

An archive is also run in the college library in which all the subject related documents, photographs/CDs from the year of establishment of the college in 1958 till date are available. Apart from college documents, other subject related documents related to the college are also kept in the archive: - (i) Media File:Paper clippings of news published in newspapers about the programs organized in the college from time to time are compiled in the media file.
(ii) Navbharat File: With the aim of inspiring students, inspirational news published in the national newspaper Navbharat Times under the title Navbharat are compiled. So that students can get inspiration from that news.
(iii) File of letters received from students/parents: From time to time, college students and their parents send their views and experiences about the college to the college administration through letters. All such letters are compiled in this file.


Collection of rare books in the library: -

The college library has a representative collection of reference books. It includes comprehensive encyclopedias, subject encyclopedias, subject dictionaries, literary dictionaries, language dictionaries, quotations and sayings dictionaries, biographical dictionaries, books on Hindi writers, computer science, philosophy, astrology, Ayurveda, yoga, Indian cinema, sports world etc., apart from books on courses. The list of rare books is available in the Rare Collection section on the library website.

Our college library is one of the best libraries in Delhi University. Our college Principal Professor R.K. Gupta Ji is always very conscious and serious about the library. Under the guidance of college Principal Professor R.K. Gupta Ji, the college and college library are constantly moving towards new dimensions.
